Come to hear me (and others) talk about the future of digital local government!
Namaste!
Just a quick newsletter this time round, as my main objective is to share details of an exciting free event coming up towards the end of June.
Town Hall 2030: local government for the digital era is an event convened by Public Digital, kicking off a really interesting new project:
Town Hall 2030 is a project about local, place-based digital public infrastructure. The work aims to engage local government, civic society and place-focused practitioners in developing actionable ideas for influencing wider national policy and practice. By way of background, it takes inspiration from The Radical How by Nesta and Public Digital, bringing a critical place-based lens to the discussion, and will hone in on specific policy and delivery areas such as employment and health.
Theo Blackwell and Andrew Greenway published a piece in the MJ outlining some of the ideas the project hopes to explore.
Iāll be there amongst other luminaries such as Ā Cate McLaurin (Director, Public Digital),Ā Hamida Ali (Future Governance Forum, former leader of Croydon Council), and Rachel Coldicutt (Executive Director, Careful Trouble). Oh, and me!
Itās taking place at 6:30pm on Tuesday 25th June at the Old Sessions House in London - but will also be streamed online. You can get your. ticket for real life attendance or a virtual invite from the event page - remember, thereās no cost.
Poor Merlin had a rather, er, delicate operation last week. Fair to say heās feeling a little less manly than he did previously. However, he does now get to sport this rather natty baby-grow type outfit, so itās not all bad news for him.
Time to share some links!

Project vs Product Funding, by Jennifer Pahlka (via NeillyNeil)
The LGA has published a local government white paper. The headline bit on digital expresses the need for āA Local Government Centre for DigitalĀ Technology: usingĀ technological innovation to deliver reform and promote inclusive economic growth across councils.ā I need to read the full document to get my head around what that means.
Steph on avoiding monkey tennis syndrome.
